Venue

This workshop will be the 19th Chikumeisha France Kinko-ryu shakuhachi workshop, organized by the France Chikumeisha Lesson Center フランス竹盟社教場

The venue will be in the Château de Vermelle, 505 montée Saint-Romain, 38300 Nivolas-Vermelle, near Lyon.

Price and registration

The price is 170€ for the three days, 100€ for beginners (June 3 & 4 only).

A full remote participation through Zoom is also possible for 100€.

You will then receive detailed information about the workshop and payment.

When payment is complete, you will receive a link to download the material studied during the workshop, and the ID of the Zoom meeting for remote attendance.

This price does not include accomodation.

Pieces taught at the workshop

Honkyoku (kinko-ryū fundamental pieces)

  • Intermediate-Advanced: “Igusa Reibo” 3 hours Workshop
  • Intermediate-Advanced: “Sōkaku Reibo” Techniques 2 hours Master Class
  • Intermediate-Advanced: “Hōshōsu” (renkan) 1 hour Master Class
  • Beginners: “Azuma no Kyoku” 3 hours Workshop

The piece “Azuma no Kyoku” will be taught at two different times during the workshop (please refer to the program below), but the two sessions do not constitute a continuation. For the Friday time slot, we might be able to play this piece as a renkan with a 1.8 and a 2.0 shakuhachi.

Practice on renkan pieces (duets) for the Saturday concert:

  • Intermediate-Advanced: “Akebono Sugagaki” renkan
  • Intermediate-Advanced: “Akita Sugagaki” renkan
  • Intermediate-Advanced: “Kumoi-jishi” renkan
  • Intermediate-Advanced: “Sagari-ha no Kyoku” renkan
  • Intermediate-Advanced: “Sanya Sugagaki” renkan
  • Intermediate-Advanced: “Taki-otoshi” renkan

Other pieces are also possible. The renkan pieces will be rehearsed during the time set for rehearsals on Saturday afternoon. Participants who want to perform a renkan piece should contact Gunnar (gunnar_linder@me.com).

Gaikyoku (repertoire of sankyoku ensemble pieces)

  • Intermediate-Advanced: “Isochidori” w. strings & vocals 4 hours Workshop
  • Intermediate-Advanced: “Saga no Aki” w. strings & vocals 3 hours Workshop (Taught at a previous workshop)
  • Beginners: “Yachiyo-jishi” w. strings & vocals 4 hours Workshop

Different levels

Beginner level Friday 3 + Saturday 4

Friday: Beginners will work on the honkyoku piece “Azuma no Kyoku” for two or four hours on Friday and the piece “Yachiyo-jishi” for an additional one or three hours. The two-hour time slot on “Azuma no Kyoku” on Friday morning will be adapted to more advanced beginners if requested. Saturday: On Saturday beginners have one hour each on “Yachiyo-jishi” and “Azuma no Kyoku”. Beginners should try to audit the other parts of the workshop.

Total beginners Friday 3, up to 3 hours

Even total beginners are welcome for separate instruction on Friday. Instruments will be available to borrow for the workshop. Instruction in French, or English if required.
